These are two different versions of the same writing. They are both so true.
I am a New Creation in Christ. I am not better than anyone else. I am just
Saved and Loved. I thank and praise God, my Father.

"When I say I am a Christian," by Maya Angelou

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

When I say, "I am a Christian"
by Carol Wimmer

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not shouting, "I’ve been saved!"
I'm whispering, "I get lost!
That's why I chose this way".

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I don't speak with human pride
I'm confessing that I stumble -
Needing God to be my guide

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak
And pray for strength to carry on.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not bragging of success
I'm admitting that I've failed
And cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I don't think I know it all
I submit to my confusion
Asking humbly to be taught.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are all too visible
But God believes I'm worth it.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache,
Which is why I seek His name.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I do not wish to judge
I have no authority...
I only know I'm loved

  2. Although I know I am a new creation, I have struggles. But He is good and He will continue His work in me until He is finished! :-)

  3. To HisDaughter.... I struggle too. But like you, I know HE is good, in control, and has our best in mind. I am so thankful that God loves us the way we are, but too much to leave us that way!

  4. why do I have so much trouble trying to comment here? We all struggle and are on different paths with various obstacles....and varying degrees of faith and discipline. Those in the world do not understand at all, and those in the Church are perhaps the most vicious! If someone repeatedly offends...I get cautious...but I try to rationalize, by self examining myself..."have I done that?" I do expect more from sheherds and so does God according to the Scriptures. If one is called, faithful is He who will do it...I expect the Lord to give them more Grace....so those who are lacking...may not have been called but simply chose a career or a way to get to children.
